Book Review: Animal Farm

“Animal Farm” by George Orwell, is a book about a group of animals that are fed up with their oppressive leader, Mr. Jones. The “important” main characters are Snowball, Boxer, Napoleon, and Mr. Jones. This book talks about the ordeals that the animals face when making an independent society. An interesting fact about this book is that it is based on the events that led up to the Russian Revolution.

The story starts out with the story of Old Major, a wise old pig and highly respected leader. He is aware that his time on Earth is about to come to an end. Old Major decides to gather every animal and spread his wisdom to them before he died. During his speech he explains his idea of animalism and tells his fellow animals or comrades that it is time to rebel against Mr. Jones. A few days later Old Major dies peacefully in his sleep and the animals are left with his wise words. Will the animals hold a successful rebellion or will they fail?

A few days after Old Major’s death, the animals attack and drive out Mr. Jones and his wife. A pig named Snowball takes the lead and commands his comrades to build a windmill. All of the animals are ecstatic as they won their independence from Mr. Jones. They all work hard and happily as they feel free and are finally allowed to roam in the pasture. Sadly, Snowball was not the leader he seems to be.

After successfully building the windmill Napoleon, a boar, drives Snowball out of the farm with his dogs. He explains that Snowball was a spy of Mr. Jones and that he had stole his idea for a windmill. At night, the windmill is destroyed and Napoleon accuses Snowball for this happening. Napoleon then becomes the leader figure and focuses on conservation and efficiency. Problems arise when neighboring farms try to capture Animal Farm and when animal commandments are altered. Will the animals maintain a fair society and hold on to the idea of animalism?

My opinion on this book is that it is very interesting and fun to read. It surprises you early on and keeps you wanting more. It shows the reader how a society can corrupt slowly over time and how easy it is to be deceived by your leaders The story gets more and more surreal as it reaches he end and it has a satisfying, yet creepy climax. The ending makes you wonder what happens after the story….

Team Fortress 2 Review

In this blog entry I will be reviewing Team Fortress 2. Team Fortress 2 is the sequel to Team Fortress Classic which was a fan-made modification of the Quake engine. Team Fortress 2 was also made by the original creators. However, this time Valve, the creators of the Quake engine, had hired them to make a sequel which increased their funds tremendously. This game was released on October, 9th 2007 for the PC and now Mac.

Team Fortress 2 is game is based on working as a team to take down the opposing team. There are two teams in this game one of them is called Red and the other Blu. This game has no real plot, but the developers make comics on the Team Fortress 2 official site that make an excuse for a plot. This game has 8 game types: Capture the Flag, King of the Hill, Payload, Team Death-match, Control Point, Payload Race, Special Delivery and Mann vs Machine. There are also 9 classes. They are called the Scout, Soldier, Pyro, Demo man, Heavy, Engineer, Medic, Sniper, and Spy. All nine classes have unique gameplay styles and it will keep you entertained for hours.

I give this game a 9.1 out of 10. In my 10 hours of playing, I have enjoyed every second of it. If you are a gamer it is a “must play”. I’m sure many other people would agree with me and there are many other people still playing this wonderful game. I really hope you were convinced to play this game and if you’re still not convinced, it is a free-to-play game.

The Virus That Generates Electricty: The M13

Recently scientists have found a virus called M13, that can be extremely beneficial to man-kind. Scientists have genetically modified the virus to generate electricity every time pressure is applied on it. The virus generates electricity by something called the piezoelectric effect.

This effect allows the virus to generate electricity when pressure is applied to it. Scientists say that this virus is still in its beta and has a long way to go. This virus was put to the test in an experiment and generated enough power equivalent to a quarter of the power a triple A battery produces.

Scientists feel that if they succeed with the virus they will change daily life. The virus had been proven to not be harmful to humans and will probably be used for other purposes. Scientists are hopeful for the potential of this virus.

I think this virus will help the environment, but if it spreads it might cause forest fires. This Virus can also evolve and become too powerful for us to handle and it can be a disaster if it goes on the loose. Other than those potential flaws I think that It will benefit the world a lot and that it will provide new structures of architecture and keep the world powered at all times. This can even benefit the economy as well.

Book Review: Catching Fire

This book was released on September 9, 2009 and was written by Suzanne Collins. This book is part of a trilogy called the “Hunger Games Trilogy”. This book’s predecessor was The Hunger Games and it’s successor was Mocking Jay.

This book is about the aftermath of the Hunger Games. Katniss and Peeta have gotten a better house for their family and they have become wealthier. However Katniss is informed that her stunt at the end of the hunger games has had a negative affect on the audience that was watching it and has lead to riots in district 8. Katniss and Peeta are also forced to get married because the capitol wants to keep the public from knowing the truth. Katniss now has to convince the public to stop the riots while preparing for the next special hunger game called the “Quarter Quell” in which past tributes battle to see who’s the best.

I thought this book didn’t live up to the expectations that everyone had, but the second half of the book makes up for it, but not enough to fill all expectations. The story wasn’t bad, but It would’ve been better if it had more action in it. I recommend this book to people who would like more back story on some of the characters and for those who really enjoyed the first book. I give this book a 3.7 out of 5.

Teenagers Drinking Hand Sanitizer to Get Drunk

In the last few months 6 teens showed up at Los Angeles emergency rooms. The doctors found out that they got intoxicated off of hand sanitizer. The teens found out it contained 62% ethyl alcohol and found out a way of distilling the alcohol out of the sanitizer.

Guides explaining how to get the alcohol out of the sanitizer can be found all over the internet. The ethyl alcohol that you would get could be compared to a hard shot of liquor. Toxicology researchers say that kids have done this in the past with cough syrup, mouthwash, and vanilla extract.

Researchers recommend getting the foam type of hand sanitizer, because kids are less likely to ingest it. I think kids should stop doing this, because it could get them killed if they don’t distill the sanitizer well, even then some of the unsafe chemicals in hand sanitizer are not distilled out.

Madame Tussauds and The Happy Feet 4-D Experience

In this blog entry, I will inform you about a place called Madame Tussauds; which is located in New York City. I will also talk about the “Happy Feet 4-D experience movie they have there. The people who went on the New York field trip will remember it as the wax museum.

Madame Tussauds is home to very realistic wax figures, which has made it very famous. The wax figures depict world leaders, famous movie stars, super heroes etc. It has a lot of cool wax figures, so if you’re in New York be sure to check it out.

Madame Tussauds also has a 4-D movie called “The Happy Feet 4-D experience”. Sadly I didn’t get to see this movie on the New York trip, but I did however do some research on how it was like. The movie is basically a brief representation of the first movie, but extra sensory effects are added.

Movie Review: Courageous

In this blog entry I will be reviewing a movie called Courageous. This movie is made by the same creators of Fireproof, a movie I love. This movie is rated PG-13 for some intense situations and dialogue.

This movie revolves around 5 policemen and their lives. They have seen the worst in people and while they are on duty they lose possible time they could be spending with their families. Their leader tells them to spend more time with their families as a fatherless home has 25% more of a chance of kids making wrong decisions. It turns out many of the police men themselves had made wrong choices family-wise as well. Will they fix them?

I Give this movie a 10 out of 10.

Game Review: Void Hunters

In this blog entry I will be reviewing a game called void hunters. This game was made by Jagex the same company that made other fan favorite games such as adventure quest. This games is also a flash game which means it is purely 2D and it is free.

This game has no plot, but it redeems itself by providing an open canvas for your imagination. Your main objective in this game is to build an awesome space ship and you can customize your ship to your liking. This game offers a large amount of artillery in terms of weapons and armor.

This game also includes multiplayer support so you can play with your friends and show off your ship. The multiplayer type of game play includes different modes of game play in which you have to defend your base and destroy the other team’s base or just defend your base etc. I give this game a 8 out of 10.
